Preface
I never intended to write this story, nor did I want people outside my tight-knit community to know it. I was a small-town nobody from Maine. Now I’m a quiet civilian and a proud veteran—my Joint Terminal Attack Control (JTAC) shoes tossed and swinging from a power line, waiting for the next capable American to lace them up and fight for this great nation, exemplifying God’s glory.
Our choices in life are numerous—both the paths we take and the ones we pass by. And God knows the end of our path before we do, regardless of whether we make the right decisions along the way. I certainly didn’t. Again and again, when I could have made the right decision, I instead acted out of self-interest. As a result, I made terribly wrong choices, destructive choices that some might even see as unforgivable. But the Lord said,
